In 1980, Gordon Giffin started Giffin Interior & Fixture. Through the years, Gordon Giffin grew the company by establishing relationships with customers and investing in the company. Acquiring tools and equipment to handle larger projects along with training for the employees to run the equipment was one of the investments. Gordon was able to purchase properties around the original location and grew the shop to an 85k square foot facility. He continued to make Giffin Interior a great place to work by hosting employee parties and recognizing employees for their efforts. Giffin Interior is not just a place to earn a paycheck. Giffin Interior is an institution that supports family values and personal growth.
Gordon Giffin was succeeded by his son Dustin Giffin. Dustin has continued to improve Giffin Interior by investing in new millwork technologies, continued training, continuous process review and recognition for excellence. In recent years, Giffin Interior has purchased new automated CNC and sorting machines as well as investing in the Innergy Millwork ERP software suite. In 2023, Dustin Giffin was the chairperson for the Architectural Woodworking Institute (AWI) and Giffin Interior is AWI QCP licensed.
Today Giffin Interior is pushing toward the future. While we are upgrading tools, processes, and our brand, two things will always remain the same. Excellence in the products we provide and outstanding customer service.
In 1980, Gordon Giffin called his wife from a payphone and informed her that he was quitting his job and starting his own millwork business in their garage. Working out of his garage was short-lived after a delivery truck took out the power lines to the Giffin residence and the surrounding neighbors. Soon after, Giffin Interior and Fixture moved to a 4,000 square foot facility at the current location on Scotti Drive in Pittsburgh.
Gordon Giffin purchases all of 500 Scotti Dr. This adds another 4,000 sq ft of shop space bringing Giffin Interior to a modest 8,000s sq ft of shop space.
In 1992, we built a new addition to the shop. An 80 foot by 200 foot structure that added an additional 16,000 square feet of shop space.
In 1994, Gordon Giffin joined the National Labor Management Committee of the Custom Woodworking Industry (NLMC/CWI) and later served as a Co-Chairman. During Gordon’s time as Co-Chair (NLMC/CWI) the organization changed names and rebranded. The name adopted is Certified Custom Woodworkers Association. Members of this organization must be union signatory, Federal/State approved apprenticeship program, and committed to providing journeyman training. CCWA members could put the seal of the CCWA on their work promoting pride in the work accomplished.
A business next to Giffin Interior suffered from a structure fire. The building was a complete loss.
Gordon Giffin bought the land with the burned out building and built another addition to Giffin Interior. This added an additional 10,000 square feet.
We provided the millwork for the new Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh. A 1.5M square foot hospital and at the time the largest project Giffin Interior had ever done.
Gordon Giffin is succeeded by his son Dustin Giffin as President of Giffin Interior. In 2023, Dustin was the Chairperson for the Architectural Woodwork Institute.
Giffin Interior has grown to an 85,000 square foot facility and continues to improve by investing in new millwork technologies, continued employee training, process review and recognition for excellence.
