In August of 2022 the Harvard Business Review did a study that questioned how many times per day employees switched between apps. What they found at a consumer goods organization was that the employees switched between 10 apps approximately 350 times per day. The days of only needing to run a few different applications have long passed us. There was a time when you would come into work, boot your computer, and then go start the coffee pot. Your day might have been spent in email, Excel, Word, a web browser, ERP (if it existed), and that was it. The rest of your data likely existed on paper. We are increasingly having to adapt to more software applications more often.
In the world of commercial construction, we not only have to adapt to apps related to running our business but also all the project management apps, bid board apps, file transfer apps, and more. There are many benefits to using apps to manage commercial construction. According to LetsBuild.com, the number one benefit of commercial construction apps is reducing human error.
For subcontractors, switching between the apps required by our customers can seem daunting. The preconstruction department will be spending their day in different bid board apps such as Build Connected or Construct Connect. Project managers might spend time using Procore, Textura, or one of the many other project management/billing apps. Recently a software application was introduced that changed commercial construction and how we look at drawings. This application was adopted by most, and it is Bluebeam. Bluebeam was designed to be used in construction and therefore runs better than the competitors. Will there be a future for a single platform adopted by the industry for project management?
Having a single ERP/CRM that is cloud-based is important for the success of any organization today. This can provide a holistic approach to how projects are run from marketing all the way through final payment. Why is it important to have a single ERP/CRM? Some call this platform singularity, not to be confused with the origins or our universe. Having the ability to track projects from start to finish enables better communication between departments and a better product for customers.
At Giffin Interior we understand that applications are important for the success of the projects that we are a part of. Our project managers are fluent in the different applications required by our customers, and we continuously offer training to our employees. We use energy for our ERP/CRM because this gives us the ability to track all phases of projects that we successfully complete for our customers. This is done using a Kanban approach that gives visualization of our workflow. The result is better service and products for our customers.
