Millwork project managers oversee projects by coordinating schedule, material procurement, production, and installation with the customer, vendors, and internally. A successful project manager will ensure that projects are completed on time, in budget, and according to the specifications.
When was the last time you had something unexpected happen on a large project? It probably wasn’t that long ago. Have you ever worked with a project manager that ignores your communication when something has gone wrong? This makes dealing with the problem that much worse. Knowing that you have a problem and not knowing what is being done about it can be extremely frustrating. The most important skill that a project manager can possess is good verbal and written communication. We have many avenues of communication with our customers, vendors and internally. Phone calls, text messages, email, messaging apps (Teams), online project management software and more are common methods of communication as a project manager. A good project manager will know which method of communication is appropriate and will stay in communication with customers, vendors, and their team.
Have you ever worked with a project manager and when they show up to review scope and schedule they are not prepared? Did you feel like your time was being wasted because the project manager was disorganized? Organization is another critical skill for project management success. Some millwork project managers can be managing as many as 15 projects at once and not having these projects organized is a recipe for disaster. A good project manager will have excellent organizational skills and time management skills.
There are other skills that are also important for a millwork project manager to be successful such as change management, effective human relations, knowledge of AWI standards, computer/software knowledge and more. A great project manager is strong at all these things and is assertive.
At Giffin Interior our project managers know that their success is the success of all team members. Our project managers resolve problems and know when to ask the team for help.
